CareEvolution Personal Health Record System showcased at the connecting americans to their health care national conference
Markle Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Highlight Innovative Approaches to Personal Health Records At National Conference
WASHINGTON, D.C, December 7, 2006
CareEvolution, Inc. is pleased to announce that its cFHR™ (collaborative Family Health Record) is one of only a handful of personal health record systems being profiled at the Connecting Americans To Their Health Care: Empowered Consumers, Personal Health Records, and Emerging Technologies national conference being held in Washington DC today.
The cFHR™ from CareEvolution is an innovative “connected” personal health record system that consolidates information from payers, insurers, and health care providers so consumers can access and control information about their health and health care. Modeled after popular personal finance manager tools, the cFHR™ provides “connections” to health information sources so consumers are not forced to manually enter their health information.
With fewer than 20% of American physicians on-line with electronic medical records, CareEvolution focused on building links to insurance claim records to pre populate the health record for consumers. “Necessity is the mother of invention. We know that most consumers will not take the time to manually enter complex health records into computer systems. We also know that while there is increasing adoption of electronic medical records, most health care providers continue to use paper based records. Yet, almost all health insurance and payment claims are handled electronically in this country. Looking at the dataset from basic EOB (Explanation of Benefit statements), we thought we could populate a very useful set of information for consumers : list of physicians and contacts where you received care, a visit history, diagnoses and procedures performed – basically a core health history”, said Vik Kheterpal, M.D. a Principal at CareEvolution.
“In working with consumers we also discovered something unexpected – the need for a tool to manage the financial side of healthcare. The increasingly complex deductible, co-pay, and annual/lifetime maximum benefit rules and now HSAs are leading consumers to seek tools like cFHR™ that can also help them in managing the economics of their health care. So we designed this system to provide consumers with a single place to connect to their health plan, their physician or hospital, and to manage the financial side of healthcare which is an increasing burden for most Americans”, continued Dr. Kheterpal.
The cFHR™ is part of CareEvolution’s HIEBus™ , a comprehensive health information exchange technology platform designed to connect health care. Leveraging the industry leading security and privacy protections of HIEBus™ , cFHR™ delivers the health care industry analogue of the banking safety deposit box model -- even the “manager” of the health bank does not have access to the content of the box. Only the consumer or a specifically authorized designate can access their information.
